To Give Ferrets Snacks Or Not – That is the Question

Ferret Snack Givers

For many ferret owners not giving their ferret snacks is like depriving fish water. It is would be insane. How could any decent human being look at that cute adorable face begging for a cheese puff and say no? They just could not imagine saying no to the excited little faces that they love so much.

Ferret Snack Non-Givers

On the other hand, other ferret owners say the opposite. They know that ferrets are carnivores. They could not imagine giving anything other than meat to their most precious pet. It does not matter how much they beg. They know what is best for their furry friend and they would not jeopardize their ferret’s well-being no matter how much they beg.

Who Is Right?

It is hard to say who is right. After all, as a nation we cannot even agree on snacks for us. Humans do really need to eat snacks but we consume an insane amount of snacks on a yearly basis. Does anyone really need to eat cheese puffs?

However, if you want to feed your ferret snacks then it is highly recommended to feed your ferret meat snacks. Your ferret is a carnivore and sugary snacks are not good for its health. So avoid the candy and soda. These will do nothing more than make your cute little furry friend to gain weight, get sick and have diarrhea.

Healthy Ferret Snacks

Now there are a wide variety of healthy ferret snacks available on the market. You can go to your local pet store and purchase commercial ferret snacks or even go online. They come in a wide range of flavors including turkey and chicken.

You can also purchase cat and dog treats as long as they are meat based. Shaking a box of meat flavored cat treats has been known to coax even the laziest of ferrets out of its hiding places.

Ferrets also enjoy freeze dried organs but you will probably want to purchase those online.

For those of you that prefer to go the all-natural route. Ferrets like to eat whole eggs. Boil up some eggs and you got yourself a healthy ferret treat you can buy by the dozen. You can also buy pureed baby food as long as it is meat. Pureed meat and chicken work well.

Other Healthy Snacks

Remember ferrets are carnivores. Any snack you give your ferret should be meat. In the wild, ferrets would only eat meat. They would not eat any fruit or vegetables. Therefore, do not give your ferret anything that is not meat and you will be okay.
