Mangalorean Banana Buns

Learn how to make delicious Mangalorean Banana Buns using maida (all-purpose flour).

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 cups maida (all-purpose flour)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup curd/yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  2. Add maida (all-purpose flour), baking soda, salt, sugar, curd/yogurt, and oil to the mashed bananas. Mix everything together to form a smooth dough.
  3. Cover the bowl with a cloth and keep it aside for 2-3 hours to let the dough ferment. (If you are in a hurry, you can skip this step and start making the buns immediately).
  4. Once the dough has fermented, knead it again for a minute or two.
  5. Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into small balls.
  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Once the oil is hot, flatten each ball of dough slightly and carefully add it to the hot oil.
  8. Fry the banana buns until they turn golden brown, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  9. Once done, remove the banana buns from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  10. Serve hot with a cup of tea or coffee.
