Kitchen Curtains – 5 Tips to Get Them Right

[ad_1]

Kitchen curtains are an essential element in finishing off kitchen décor. Unfortunately they often tend to get forgotten. Once you have them however you’ll see just what a difference you can make by framing your windows with the right window treatment. Here are five tips to help you make the right choice.

1. Choose a Simple, Informal Style

Fancy swags and tails and elaborate curtain headings are more suitable for formal rooms such as the lounge or bedroom. Keep the curtains simple in a kitchen to be more in keeping with the style of the room.

2. Add Impact with the Fabric Design

While we might hesitate to choose (and be stuck with) colored cabinets, curtains are a great way to add some color to a kitchen. Choose a fabric design and colors which go well with the other elements in the kitchen whether they are contemporary, classic or country.

3. Keep them Short

Sill length curtains are generally a better match for the informal style in a kitchen although full length curtains may be appropriate if you have a window in the eating area of your kitchen and use this for dining. A cafe style curtain is also great if you would like some privacy but don’t want to block too much light.

4. Make Sure they are Washable

Kitchen curtains are likely to get much dirtier than curtains in other rooms in your home with all the steam and grease in the air. They will need to be cleaned frequently so make it easier for yourself by choosing a curtain or fabric which is easily washed in the washing machine rather than one which needs you to make a trip to the dry cleaners.

5. Think Safety

Fabrics dangling over a cooking area are not ideal. If you have a window near a cooker then consider whether curtains are a safe option. You may be better with a simple roller blind which will stay well away from the flames or hot pans.
